About the role

We're excited to be looking for a Technical Reviewer – T Level Science (Laboratory Sciences, Food Sciences and Metrology Sciences) within our Assessment Solutions team on a flexible worker contract.

As a Technical Reviewer you’ll provide the subject matter and assessment expertise necessary to support NCFE in setting and maintaining consistent standards across assessments within a subject area across levels, modes and over time.

You’ll support the Subject Chair by reviewing assessments during key stages identified in the production process, and provide constructive technical based feedback and suggestions to ensure assessment papers and mark schemes meet the requirements of the assessment criteria as set out in the qualification specification.

Whilst this is a flexible worker role, we expect a reasonable level of commitment during assigned pieces of work that take place throughout the year and so availability will be needed during business hours.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Carrying out technical reviews of assessments in line with internal quality and compliance processes
  • Attending pre-standardisation sessions to ensure a consistent application of mark schemes, making any necessary amendments to mark scheme details and guidance to maintain consistency in marking across examiners
  • Engaging with NCFE’s pre-assessment release panel, responding to and clarifying any sector related queries/issues identified prior to paper (s) going live.
  • Attending, reviewing and commissioning meetings to support decisions on the next round of paper production as well as sharing and discussing lessons learned

We'd love to hear from you if you offer the following:

  • A degree level (or equivalent) qualification in a Science discipline
  • Experience of writing and/or reviewing assessments and mark schemes for qualifications in the Science industry
  • Experience of working within a related role, such as teaching, assessment design or production or examining of related qualifications
  • An understanding of assessment principles (validity, reliability, fairness, accessibility, manageability)
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to work accurately and consistently
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines
